ABSTRACT
Cultural institutions and museums engage in adult education on a regular basis. In this setting, those with creativity and a love for adult education can combine the best of two worlds in a fulfilling career. The author begins with their own career trajectory in the world of museums. Next, the intersection of adult education and museum education is explored. Career titles such as Director of Education combine museum education and administrative roles, and the author shares ways to advance within this sphere of adult education. Professional organizations are shared. This chapter also discusses valued competencies such as flexibility, improvisation, curiosity, and creativity. Finally, the author provides advice on finding that coveted museum position that you have been looking for – whether you live in a major coastal city or a smaller town somewhere in between.
