ABSTRACT

Nonprofit careers are a great match for adult education professionals passionate about organizational missions/causes. There are many opportunities available throughout the nonprofit sector, including programs/services, administration (human resources, finance, information technology, data management, evaluation, etc.), fundraising/development, marketing/communications, and leadership roles. This chapter explores a few of those not explicated elsewhere in this book: program manager, fundraiser, foundation program officer, grant writer, scholarship officer, and volunteer administrator. Entry points into jobs in the sector are plentiful and career pathways are myriad. Knowledge, skills, and expertise in program planning, leadership, and adult learning theories are just a few of the advantages that candidates with adult education degrees will bring to the table. Adult education professionals are able to provide thoughtful, personalized engagement for nonprofit program participants, donors, and volunteers. Those professionals able to adapt to change easily and who are comfortable with technology will be well positioned as the sector develops in the future.
