ABSTRACT
Online learning is a growing field and presents many opportunities and career paths in higher education, companies, and nonprofit organizations. Graduates of adult education programs are uniquely positioned for this field as online courses, programs, and professional and workplace training and education are all geared toward adult learners. This chapter describes online learning and development positions with a detailed focus on the titles of Instructional Designer, Instructional Technologist, and Learning Management Systems (LMS) Administrator. The authors discuss theories that are important for creating robust online learning. The chapter concludes with a section on the future of careers in online learning and development.
