ABSTRACT
This conclusion is more than a summary of the chapters in this textbook. The editors begin by discussing common themes in the book of multiple pathways and career entry points for adult educators. In addition, almost every author pointed out how the importance of proficiency with technology and cultural competence are assuming a more prominent role in the field. Then a summary of the meta-competencies needed is provided for the reader. General career advice is supplied. The following areas are covered: online profiles, resumes, crafting your elevator pitch, ideas for further career exploration, mentors, career websites and professional organizations. Finally, suggestions for adult education programs and faculty are offered, including recommendations for using this book in marketing, advising, and course curriculum.
The editors compiled this book to elevate the voices of practitioners in an attempt to begin answering the question “What can I do with a degree in adult education?” This is not an exhaustive collection of every adult education career possibility, but an entry point to careers within adult education. Wherever your career path in adult education takes you, may you find joy and all the best kinds of challenges in this important work.
