ABSTRACT

At the heart of the LEGO® system of play is the notion that everything connects to everything, beginning with the interconnecting studs and tube system of the brick. This mindset of a connecting system is useful in explaining the STP social experience that allows groups to think, build, and share together. Like any complex system, the social environment is dynamic, and the process and people help create an environment where ideas are discovered and insights, uncovered. This chapter capitalises on the functions of STP for providing mental tools rich in cognition, language, self-regulation, and emotional awareness. As a social tool, STP can also foster social-skill development, as every conversation or encounter between two or more people is a shared experience and presents an opportunity for new knowledge and social connections.
