ABSTRACT

This chapter defines the ideal therapist qualities of deep empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness regarding their roles and necessity in CCPT and their relationships to each other. Through extensive vignettes or case stories, the reader is presented the challenges that new play therapists encounter in the development of these ideal qualities. Chapter exercises are provided to help the reader define the personal challenges to effective ways of being that may impact their development, as well as lessons that they expect to learn in different work settings with children with a variety of presenting behaviors and concerns.
