ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the idea of relationality in supervision. Bąk explains the usefulness of the relational approach in psychotherapy with GSRD clients in a constantly changing world. Bąk also introduces the relational matrix model of supervision with practical examples from GSRD-affirmative supervision. An important aim of this chapter is to sensitise professionals to a wider context of therapeutic and supervisory relationships. Knowledge-based and practical expertise expected from a GSRD-affirmative supervisor is considered, such as awareness of their own heteronormativity, heterosexism, and gender stereotypes but also the understanding of shame relational dynamics. Also, a situation of a GSRD-identified supervisor and/or supervisee is discussed with special attention to possible support sources for both and their relationship.
