ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the first edited book in political management, explaining the scope of the field in terms of research and practice. Political management is all about how things get done in politics – whether it is in a campaign, party, political office or parliament, both campaigning for power and actually using it once elected. Whilst management concepts and tools are of value in the political arena, they do not always transfer easily so management has to be adapted. The book presents global case studies of political management in concept, including human resource management, organisation, leadership, implementation of plans, strategy and vision, in UK, US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, New Zealand, the Philippines, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland, Georgia, Pakistan and Iran.
