ABSTRACT

Safety is a pivotal factor to any visitor attraction as it seeks to deliver a secure environment for all its stakeholders to engage with its range of activities. However, literature surrounding safety in visitor attractions remains largely implicit, or fragmented. Most studies are reported as breaches in media reports, and often feature legal and financial implications. In addition, the changing landscape for visitor attractions suggests the need to explore the evolving safety considerations confronting day-to-day operations. This chapter analyses the role of scenario planning to prepare visitor attractions for safety preparedness and resilience into the future. It delves into safety when engaging with technology, inclusive accessible futures, professional and amateur co-created event attractions, and blockchain-enabled financial transactions. Future implications for attractions and their respective stakeholders are discussed.
