ABSTRACT

How does corporeal instability intersect with contemporary struggles within patriarchy? Social issues today, among them explorations of gender, sexuality, rape culture, trans and non-binary identities are played out through and on the body. This poses interesting challenges to psychoanalysis where shifting and capacious understandings of self are understood and valued as an antidote to concrete thinking and being. This chapter will focus on how corporeal fluidity and fixidity express these dilemmas which enter the consulting room in psychological and somatic forms.
