ABSTRACT

In conclusion, this final chapter offers a series of reflections on how the papers in this volume attempt, from different voices, and different units of analysis, to reconcile the tension between two psychoanalyses: the psychoanalysis that is structured by patriarchal laws and premises and the psychoanalysis that subverts norms, disrupts categories, and expands the possibilities for identification, recognition, belonging, and meaning. In these reflections, the author suggests that culture, as embodied in gendered categories, can both invite and foreclose emergent subjectivities depending, in part, on the way these categories either hold or collapse the dialectical tension between gender’s traumas and transformative potentials.
