ABSTRACT

This chapter comprises a conversation between psychoanalysts Sarah Schoen and Naomi Snider and four pioneers of women's rights: Carol Gilligan, Carol Jenkins, Emily Mann, and V (formerly known as Eve Ensler). The interview explores what feminism and psychoanalysis have to offer each other as movements for psychological and social liberation. Subjects include the tensions between democracy and patriarchy, the role of girls and black women in movements for political resistance, and the unconscious forces that hold patriarchy in place.
