ABSTRACT

The chapter examines the nature and consequences of the uprising of the people of Oaxaca, Mexico, in 2006, which has often been called the Oaxaca Commune. It was an open experiment in radical democracy, brutally repressed at the end of the year. It has left a meaningful sediment in many groups, which learned a lot about different aspects of social struggle. The Oaxaca Commune was clearly an expression of the insurrection described in the next chapter.
