ABSTRACT
This chapter proposes that an important variable that should be considered is perpetrators’ justifications for their violent acts from a cognitive linguistic angle. The chapter will provide an overview of the prevalence and nature of domestic violence in Spain and their trends under the impact of COVID-19 and possible scenarios which might arise due to climate change. Then, adopting a cognitive linguistic approach, the chapter will leverage and extend existing knowledge of risk factors of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) through analyzing perpetrators’ justifications while paying special attention to the use of conceptual metaphors. Findings will be discussed in the realm of preventing and responding to IPVAW.
