ABSTRACT

This chapter theoretically proposes Identity Stages for Gifted–GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) individuals. Currently, there are very few proposed theories illuminating gifted, or GLB (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual) stages of identity and even fewer pertaining to Transgender persons. Furthermore, there are no theoretical applications of stages of identity that exist for Gifted–GLBT individuals. Therefore, this chapter brings forth information to assist all those who either are Gifted–GLBT, their family and friends, a counselor/therapist, or an educator. All current research on gay and gifted stages of identity were collected, dichotomized, magnified, and validated in order to theoretically introduce Sedillo’s Gifted–GLBT Stages of Identity.
