ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide an insight into the specific, culturally relevant challenges, demands, and benefits of delivering psychoeducation through dance movement therapy and drama therapy for adolescents in urban school settings in India. The capacity of the Arts Therapies to respond to students’ educational and emotional needs has recently made it a popular choice in schools, prompting the conceptualisation of ‘Project Reflect’ in 2016. The systemic issues in mental health care that led to this concept, and its theoretical underpinnings, are described with reference to the structure of the Indian mental health systems that either support or constrain the development of the Arts Therapies and ‘Project Reflect’ in its aim of providing quality care to children and adolescents across the country.
