ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book uses a triangulation approach, such as visual semiotics, thematic and mixed methods approach, in-depth interviews, focus groups, questionnaires, document and content analyses, and a community of practice to understand the salient trends embedded in communication and terrorism from the perspectives of refugees, asylum seekers, non-Muslims, Western Muslims, and professionals. It uses the principles of recombinant memetics along with discourse analysis and media analysis to analyse media and communication data. The book highlights the use of social media among Kenyan women entrepreneurs through the lens of feminist theory and qualitative research design as examined by Gachiri.
