ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some reflections on the impact of the Covid-19 crises on the life style of people and values in the Western society. Life slows down, the world freezes, news of death, suffering, insecurity, helplessness, confusion come on all channels, through all media. Life shifts at home and in the vast space of the internet. What has the unconscious to say to what is going on in the world? Jung believed that psyche is a self-regulating system. Under all circumstances the human psyche strives at achieving inner balance, and dreams are the natural reaction of a self-regulating psychic system. Together with her colleague, the Jungian analyst Arthur Funkhouser, the author decided to conduct an exploratory research under the form of an online anonymous survey asking people about their experience with dreams and dreaming during the pandemic. The survey was administered in German and English online via survey-monkey.
