ABSTRACT

Future implementations of Internet of Things (IoT) systems will be embedded in next-generation information-centric networking (ICN), thereby integrating the physical world with cyberspace globally. Ensuring the interoperability of information systems operating in the ICN environment requires searching for new concepts in IoT ecosystems’ logical and technical architecture. Implementing an organization’s business logic based on distributed IoT ecosystems operating in next-generation networks can be based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) paradigms. Building IoT ecosystems based on SOA brings many benefits, including a significant increase in the interoperability of systems in a distributed environment, but also some potential threats, particularly in cyber security. For this reason, this chapter proposes the concept of trust-based SOA in the implementation of IoT ecosystems, aiming to implement the framework of IoT ecosystems’ logical and technical architecture based on trust-based SOA paradigms. The chapter also presents open issues, challenges, and directions for further research into IoT implementation in ICN networks.
