ABSTRACT

Trust is growing in importance nowadays. Social media are an essential part of the life of modern generations, and are also a very popular communication channel around the world. The aim of this chapter is to explore the nature of trust in various areas of social life in the context of contemporary life in the space of social media. The chapter presents a systematic review of the literature, conducted to analyze peer-reviewed scientific journal articles on trust and social media using content analysis to elucidate the importance of trust in social media. In selected articles, a link was found between social media and trust. The analysis indicates the need for further research related to the relationship between social media and trust. Key findings include an indication of the importance of trust in the context of social media for young people, and how much attention is paid to messages from the scientific community as well as from politicians. The conclusions may contribute to a better, more insightful approach to trust in the field of social media.
