ABSTRACT

There are many ways through the Meandering Gallery. Its non-Euclidean space adjusts itself to visitors, enabling them to forge paths that are uniquely theirs, giving them what they need. It will not disappoint their sense of adventure, but it will slow them down. The academics in this gallery have in common a desire to do academic careers differently by refusing to be pressured into specializing in a particular sphere of academic work, which is often advocated as the most effective – and fastest – way of progressing an academic career. Their portraits epitomize the spirit of this book because they take joy in meandering freely at their own pace to find one’s own, alternative career pathways.
