ABSTRACT

Teaching English in rural areas is a highly challenging task for language teachers. The goal of English Language Teaching (ELT) is to achieve competence in communication. There are methods, concepts, and techniques that are being adopted in the classroom to find out the needs of the student and the difficulties to learn the language. Besides the proficiency level, the socio-demographic profile, educational background, and dynamics of the students should be considered while teaching English. Integration of technology is the latest motto in educational communication and is used for achieving different learning objectives. This chapter explores the effects of the TTT (Test, Teach, Test) method in developing vocabulary, grammar reading comprehension, and listening skills of the first-year students of As-Salam College of Engineering and Technology, who hail from a government school. In this approach, students are first tested on their first-hand knowledge in the target language. When the teacher examines students’ performance, he/she can find out the proficiency level of students and also their need. It is easy for the teacher to identify the students’ needs. Pre- and post-tests results have been statistically analyzed using SPSS.
