ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces this handbook and addresses the challenges faced by social work field education in the global south. It presents an overview and comparative summary of the contributions included in this handbook and also argues for the rationale of a handbook on social work field education focusing on the global south. The chapter examines the need for building tacit knowledge, strengthening the links between theory and practice, developing skills and competences of students and practitioners, and knowledge production in social work with special reference to the global south. It discusses the overall themes and the scope of the handbook.
