ABSTRACT
Empathy is the grade level theme for fifth-grade students. Empathy comes from Learning for Justice’s Social Justice Standards. This chapter outlines ten lessons to use with fifth-grade students completing a Theme Project. The lessons include objectives, materials, learning activities, and differentiation suggestions. This chapter also provides digital resources and worksheets for use with students. An age-appropriate list of texts related to empathy is included in this chapter as well. The differentiated Theme Project Workbook is provided online to go along with the lessons and other materials. The ten lessons are meant to be an outline for educators to adapt to the needs of their students and their program.
