ABSTRACT

The Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) is the pedagogy behind the enrichment programming in many school districts. This model was created by Dr. Joseph Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis in 1997. The authors explain this pedagogical model to provide context for further lessons and unit planning. Discussions on the three-ring conception of giftedness, enrichment programming, teaching creativity are included in this chapter. Identification protocols for this model are also provided. Figures from this model are included as a visual representation of this way of teaching. Other educators do not need to be familiar with SEM or use SEM to implement this curriculum.
