ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as an update on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) rights after the Trump era appears to be over. While progress was made in areas like marriage equality and federal employment non-discrimination through the Obergefell and Bostock decisions by the United States Supreme Court, respectively, the election of Donald J. Trump to be the President of the United States led to many attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. There were over 70 attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in policy and actions during the Trump Administration. LGBT-specific concerns as they relate to COVID-19 include the rate of tobacco usage in the LGBT community, substance concerns, high blood pressure due to stress on the LGBT community from discrimination and other areas, HIV/AIDS and vulnerability due to medical conditions, and youth homelessness and COVID-19 rates among the homeless.
