ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on learning from a study conducted under the sport heading and specifically the adventure sports community. Using the hybrid methodologies model, immersive ethnographic, qualitative, and design-led data collection approaches were implemented. These were followed up using quantitative methods, used to elaborate on, confirm, and validate findings. Again, time consuming, but supports the development of a more robust, and validated, outcome that is the product of having consulted users at all stages of development – as any good design-led innovation project should. Through the co-design consultations a model was developed that could, in the future, be further realised to become an online service to support adventure sport participants to take part in adventure sport activities in a safe and meaningful way. Thus, responding to changes in participant behaviours that have occurred recently, and organically, as a result of increased interest in adventure sport.
