ABSTRACT

For the last few decades, the rapid development and convergence of information and communication technologies have led to the digital innovation, ensuring massive restructuring of tourism events in different geographical locations. Moreover, numerous models and theories have been introduced to evaluate the enormous transformation of diverse tourism events in different geographical regions throughout the globe. As theories and models employed in these studies were derived and modified over time, tourist gurus have proceeded to broaden the concepts in the meantime. The present study evaluates the relationships between tourism and technology with a specific focus on the inclusion of digital innovation in tourism events. In this connection, this study employed a comprehensive literature analysis to establish the origins of digital innovation-based tourist events and creates a conceptual framework explaining how the integration of digitalization may generate value for all stakeholders involved in the system. The conceptual framework and theoretical underpinnings discussed in this study imply that digital technology-enabled tourism events have become unquestionably a highly sophisticated, diverse phenomenon. This study also provides new insights into the tourism and digital innovation debates by looking at the interplay between events and technology. It also offers potential future directions for digital innovation in the management and evaluation of technology-based tourism events.
