ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the role of coaching in collegiate esports and unique approaches aimed at developing mental, social, and emotional wellness in youth and collegiate esports players. Based on interviews with current esports coaches in the North American Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF), esports coaching programs from a co-design project with teen players and coaches, the authors explore different stress-busting skills, strategies for supporting mental health and well-being of players, and creating and sustaining relationships with peers and mentors. These include a variety of strategies focusing on different dimensions such as emotional, physical, social, and spiritual aspects. This chapter ends with recommendations for different practices coaches can engage in to support players’ mental health and well-being in the context of esports.
