ABSTRACT

Esports athletes often place their bodies and minds under incredible amounts of stress. Whether it is repetitive strain on a tendon from exceedingly high actions per minute, sleep deprivation from inconsistent schedules, or the metabolic side effects of a sedentary lifestyle, esports athlete injuries warrant the same treatment and medical care as traditional sports athletes. Esports athletes frequently experience neck, back, wrist, and hand pain, but prevention, and treatment of these and other esports injuries, has yet to capture the medical community’s attention. Furthermore, esports athletes themselves have not been immersed in the extensive support industry that comes with traditional sports. Without the support of an athletic trainer, or other medical staff in the college esports program, coaches play an important role in esports player health. As such, coaches must not only be aware of the injuries and ailments esports athletes are susceptible to, but the appropriate next steps, and, ultimately, prevention.
