ABSTRACT

The future of work, like the present, will be encumbered by neoliberal demands to be efficient, definitive, competitive, adaptive, flexible, and compartmentalized. Nepantleras are complicating, questioning, communitary, resistant, and integrative. Nepantleras refer to people who inhabit a borderland between categories, see the world from multiple perspectives, and build bridges to forge connection across differences (Anzaldúa, 2002). In this essay, I extrapolate from Anzaldúa’s writings, building upon McWhirter and Cinamon’s (2021) suggestions for the role of nepantleras in STEM education and work settings, and propose engaging nepantleras to build a more inclusive workplace.
