ABSTRACT

The triple disrupters to the workplace: the COVID-19 pandemic, the increasing social movement around racial inequality, and the frightening urgency of climate change have provided an opportunity to pause and consider the policies and practices around which work is structured. We have an opportunity to question why policies are structured as they are, and how we might wish to structure them in the future, as well as their possible role in challenging or perpetuating inequalities. With reference to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development sub-goal 8.5 “equal pay for work of equal value,” this essay takes a critical perspective to examine fair pay, offering recommendations for uncovering barriers to fairness within organizations.
