ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an insight into Canada’s CIP’s efforts in recent times. Starting from 2010, the Government of Canada has launched a set of initiatives in order to better define the CIP field and national frameworks. The chapter also takes into account the US–Canada relationships and joint efforts in CIP. Like many advanced countries in Europe, Canada has a well-defined definition of critical infrastructure in place. The National Strategy for Critical Infrastructure was first published in 2010 and continues to guide and enhance the overall approach to CIPR in Canada. The core of the Canadian Emergency Management Framework for the CIP is built around three key guiding principles: building partnerships, sharing and protecting information, and implementing an all-hazards risk management approach. ICS security training is focused on the development of basic incident handling and response skills for the ICS environment.
