ABSTRACT

Professional communities were deeply affected by 2020's compounding crises, and our children, adolescents, and media community was no exception. Authors believe that crises can, and often do, bring opportunities for clarity. In this issue, they will find reflections on how this tumultuous year has led authors to re-evaluate relationships between children, adolescents, and media in their families, research, pedagogy, and media making. The commentaries therefore reflect diverse perspectives on 2020's crises and the clarity gleaned from the yeas challenges, and organically coalesced around several themes. The first set of commentaries relate to co-viewing during the pandemic, and how authors; varied circumstances led to reevaluating what co-viewing and joint media engagement with children could be. The second theme centers on how media either helped meet childrens diverse needs during lockdowns, or ways in which they failed.
