ABSTRACT

The aim of the chapter is to provide an overview of homelessness policy and practice in Sweden. It underlines the Swedish welfare model, with a universal ambition of having a unitary housing system that provides adequate housing at a reasonable cost for all citizens. The key instruments of this model have been municipal public housing companies, housing allowances, and municipal housing agencies. The chapter also discuss the housing assistance provided within local housing services and highlights the actors involved in local housing services provided to people experiencing homelessness. At the end of the chapter, the future of homelessness law and policy in Sweden is discussed.
