ABSTRACT

Homelessness is an important and growing issue in the United States and around the world. This chapter provides a review of the issue, measurement, and policy responses to homelessness in the United States. Then, the chapter provides in-depth case studies of three innovative approaches to address issues related to homelessness. The case studies presented here review (1) safe parking as an alternative sheltering option; (2) tiny home communities as a sheltering and housing option; and (3) direct cash (guaranteed income) as a policy response for people experiencing homelessness.
