ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a critical examination of the issue of homelessness in India, including the most recent statistics, distinct types of homelessness, policy and legal frameworks, and government and civil society initiatives. It provides valuable insights into the various factors that contribute to this social problem. The initiatives and measures undertaken by civil society and the government to combat homelessness are also reviewed. As a result, the chapter makes a substantial contribution to a comprehensive knowledge of homelessness in India, as well as the numerous efforts being undertaken by the state and civil society organizations to fight against destitution caused by homelessness and calls for reforms to the existing legislation and policies.
