ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to examine the evolution of the legal framework and social interventions for homelessness in Greece during the last 15 years of multiple crises (economic, refugee, Covid-19). The economic recession led to a significant exacerbation in housing problems within Greek society. However, institutional interventions adopted an emergency character due to austerity policies and residual housing policies. This manuscript mainly explores the new regulatory framework for alleviating the housing problem in Greece, and specifically Law 5006/2022, and finally reflects on the prospects of homelessness law and policy in Greece.
