ABSTRACT

Internet access and new information technologies are increasingly being presented as important tools to support economic and social development, and are associated with several sustainable development goals (SDGs). This research aims to analyse the implementation of the Sustainable Villages for Development (SV4D) project in Mozambique, a project developed by ARCTEL-CPLP (Association of the Regulators of Communications and Telecommunications of the Community of Portuguese speaking countries) and Fraunhofer AICOS (Research Center for Assistive Information and Communications Solutions) – Portugal (a private non-profit association). The objective of the SV4D project is to implement a broadband network infrastructure in rural areas and through internet access to enhance, together with local communities, the development of complementary services that result in economic and social benefits for the population. The results presented in this chapter are still preliminary, but they deserve attention due to the socio-economic and institutional context where they are being developed.
