ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to illustrate the reciprocal nature of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) response of the major gaming enterprises in Macau through the lens of stakeholder theory. Qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted with senior management personnel from six gaming enterprises which represent the biggest corporations in the city. A total of seven interviews were conducted and all interviewees have held executive management positions for an average of more than three years and have been engaged for more than ten years in the industry. The finding reveals that various CSR actions, mostly beyond compliance practices, have been implemented. Through the lens of stakeholder theory and relevant CSR theories, the study concludes that CSR responses during COVID-19 in Macau are of reciprocal nature and the findings also depict the local government has manoeuvred the regulative institution successfully and triggered CSR practices beyond compliance.
