ABSTRACT

The following school year, I had the good fortune to read this case to two of my three students. 1 We collectively laughed, nodded our heads, and teared up at various parts of the story. They followed along so closely they never once interjected to share a related thought (or ask to use the restroom or get a drink of water). So, when I finished, 1) I was out of breath—they wanted me to read so they could receive what they called the “full effect”—and 2) they felt what I can now identify, thanks to Haverback (Chapter 9), as efficacious. We were all ready to read more about racial justice and create positive change in Ryend.
