ABSTRACT

As I imagine any reader would be, the analysis authors were burning with curiosity about what happened next for Isaiah. They wanted to know where he was now. Although I cannot give many details, I can give some. The year after Isaiah graduated from my class and our school, I was surprised by a visit from him and his uncle. Isaiah, already tall, was even taller, and he had that look in his eye again: the wide-eyed innocent one he had when I first met him. I was overjoyed to see him, and my grin was ear to ear. I hugged Isaiah and got to his eye level and asked him about life in kindergarten. He mostly smiled and nodded affirmatively to my close-ended questions: Do you love kindergarten? Is your teacher nice? Are you sharing with your friends? Are you wearing your listening ears? While Isaiah nodded away enthusiastically, I glanced up at his uncle who was shaking his head in the negative, thereby contradicting all of Isaiah’s responses. Looking back at Isaiah, I played along and continued the ruse with him, and my grin stayed in place although I am sure my eyes said something different. I thanked him again for coming by and told him I looked forward to future visits. At the time of this writing, I have yet to see Isaiah again.
