ABSTRACT
a study of equal opportunities in the secondary schools of one local education authority. It shows how a woman teacher became interested and involved in research in this area as a result of her own experiences as a teacher, carried out a study which came up with embarrassing results, and ended up unemployed. The chapter deals with the difficulties faced by a female researcher in an almost wholly male education department determined to maintain the status quo of preference for male teachers in the county’s schools.
