ABSTRACT

Individuals come into a T-group carrying often unrecognized stereotypes and prejudices about different categories of people. These get transformed into discriminatory behaviour and impact the ability to empathize with others.

Stereotypes and prejudices originate within social structures, in which different parts of society are stratified on the basis of class, caste, religion, race, gender, sexuality, disability etc. Each society has its own forms of stratification and India has its own distinctive set.

Stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory behaviours all exist within a T-group - after all, the T-group is a slice of society. The way to recognize and deal with them is to employ deep empathy, quality group processes, and develop a clear perspective to understand discrimination in larger society.
