ABSTRACT
Supported by excellent infrastructure and logistics and distribution networks, economic corridors build effective multimodal transport networks within specific geographic settings by integrating existing road and rail networks and thereby helping to interlink numerous production centres and markets of countries. This chapter examines the impact of economic corridors in supporting sustainable economic development in the South Asian region and the implication to the livelihood of persons living in these geographic locations. The findings disclose that the development of economic corridors is linked to numerous advantages such as opportunities for employment creation, investment, and enhancement in the standard of living. This chapter, while contributing to the existing literature on South Asia, emphasizes on the prospects of developing economic corridors in the region.
