ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the different experiences of older people regarding geographic, social and emotional, distances and distancing. It explores Migrating concepts of ageing: a case study of older Russian-speaking women in Finland. The chapter focuses on how financial issues and difficulties affect family relations across generations in Finnish Lapland. It fills a gap in the literature by providing an account of the elements of age-friendly environments that older people in the Nordic North perceive as important for their daily lives. The chapter examines the effects on older people of changes in the Russian Federation's regulatory framework, introduced in response to COVID-19. It employs Therborn's theoretical analytical tool, of mechanisms producing inequalities, to raise questions about the effects of elder care housing policies under neoliberal New Public Management.
