ABSTRACT

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasing role in every walk of life. This trend does not spare supply chain management, involving the possibility to capture value, end-to-end transparency, and improved decision-making. The focus of this chapter is on integrating AI into supply chain management from a strategic point of view. Specifically, this research highlights how state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can be integrated within existing supply chain business operations to provide solutions relevant to the needs of stakeholders. Initially, a brief overview is provided on artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated operation in supply chain management and the pressing need to optimize and automate the traditional supply chain with smart AI technologies. A formal definition of AI-integrated operations is also provided. According to the proposed definition, AI-integrated operations aim to automate and optimize supply chain business processes. This is further supported by real-world examples showcasing the integration of AI across different subfields of the supply chain such as supplier management, manufacturing management, and logistics management (i.e., warehousing and transportation). Subsequent AI solutions and related values to corporations are also evaluated.
