ABSTRACT

This illustrative example will focus on the psychology, physiology, universality, and phenomenology of fun and its role in museum experience. Emphasis will be placed on how fun is utilized as a tool, an approach, and an agent of transformational experience in perception, connectivity, and cognition in museum exhibitions and programs. The instinctual nature of fun as a sought-after layer of experience, even in times of tragedy and crisis, will be described and how it does not detract from serious endeavors but rather enriches understanding, human connection, and knowledge retention.
