ABSTRACT
Responsibility of the Executive is particular. It expresses the idea that the rulers, entrusted with the conduct of public business (responsibilities) must account for how they exercise their power (accountability). This chapter briefly aims at defining the notion of ‘Executive’ within the political system of the Fifth Republic and tries to seize the exact meaning of political responsibility, as opposed to other types of responsibility (administrative, civil or criminal for instance).
