ABSTRACT
This chapter covers the period of the early 20th century in which various artists and movements moved towards the realisation of the performed image. Covering key developments, such as the creation of various light/colour organs, the use of synesthesia as a tool for linking sound and image and the development of the visual music film, this chapter gives an overview of this key period in the development of Live Visuals art, technology and design. The chapter also concludes with a deeper analytical look at key works of visual music film by Len Lye and Norman McLaren.
